Can one free office suite actually replace Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace for everyday work? I decided to give WPS Office a full test for 7 days — completely ditching Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. No going back halfway!
We Used WPS Office for 7 Days — Here’s What Happened (Honest Results & Verdict)
Here’s my honest take after using it every day for a week — from quick work tasks to fiddling with PDFs and even testing some AI tools.
Day 1–2: First Impressions and Setup
Installing WPS Office was surprisingly quick — less than three minutes and it didn’t feel like it was trying to install extra stuff. Nice start.
I fired it up on my old laptop, and it launched fast — definitely felt much lighter than the usual Microsoft Office beast.
The interface looked neat and familiar, which always helps. Tabs for Writer, Spreadsheets, and Presentation made switching easy, though I had to poke around to find some settings — typical first-day exploring.
Day 3–4: Real Work Test — Reports, Invoices, and Presentations
By day 3, I started using it for real: invoices, sales reports, client proposals — the usual grind.
The templates were a real-time-saver. I whipped up a sales report much faster than expected, though I did stumble a bit figuring out some formatting inconsistencies that aren’t quite like Word.
The PDF editor saved me a hassle — instead of juggling multiple apps, I combined and signed docs right inside WPS. Pretty smooth experience for freelancers and small businesses.
For presentations, I tested a pitch deck with lots of images and animations. It handled everything without lag — props for that! Though a couple of animations weren’t exact matches, it was close enough.
Day 5: AI Tools — Smarter Writing & Formatting
This day was a real surprise. I tried their AI-powered features: “AI Rewrite” reworded an email draft I’d been stuck on, and “AI Summarizer” boiled down a long client brief in seconds. That saved me a good 15-20 minutes.
Granted, it’s not perfect — sometimes a little too formal or off on tone, but definitely a cool productivity boost.
Day 6: Collaboration & Cloud Sync
Switching devices was a breeze thanks to WPS Cloud. I started editing a doc on my laptop, then continued seamlessly on my phone without missing a beat.
The collaboration features like commenting and link sharing worked well when I needed input from team members. I have to admit, I barely missed Google Docs this week — quite the feat!
Day 7: Verdict — Can It Replace Microsoft 365?
So, after a full week of daily use:
- Speed: It’s lightweight and starts almost instantly on older hardware.
- Features: Everything I needed from Word, Excel, PowerPoint, plus PDF tools all in one place.
- AI: Surprisingly useful for drafting and summarizing — a neat productivity hack.
- Cloud: Syncing and collaboration were smooth and hassle-free.
- Downside: I did notice some missing advanced Excel macros and integrations, but for 95% of users, this won’t matter.
Final verdict: WPS Office is an excellent, free alternative to Microsoft 365 — perfect for freelancers, students, and small businesses wanting professional features without the monthly fees.
